‘Bracken Ridge’ original acrylic landscape painting by Jane Powell

‘Bracken Ridge’ was inspired by the North Yorkshire moors near Guisborough where my husband is from. Such a beautiful rural and rugged place and very unlike the Cotswolds where we live now!

The color palette I used is subdued and predominantly earth-toned. The sky colours suggesting an overcast or hazy day with a diffused atmospheric effect. The paint on the hill and foreground were applied with a palette knife giving lots of interesting marks and textures and give a sense of depth and uneven terrain. I used a light sage green in the sky and foreground to suggest patches of frost or snow.

The overall mood of the painting is quiet and contemplative. The muted colors and diffuse light create a sense of stillness.

Framed in a warm cream St Ives frame that measures 39 x39cm
