Work in progress: I just recently painted this commission of Hanbury Church in Worcestershire, 16in x 12in oil on paper. With lots of facets to the building, all the different roofs and the elevated perspective I had to be careful to get all the angles right. So I started with a detailed sketch including grid and vanishing points - which is unusual for me as I like to dive right in with the paint! Then I painted an under wash of yellow ochre over the whole of the painting and in this last picture I had just started blocking in areas of colour. I decided to paint the gate open to lead the viewers eye up the path and up to the focal point of the church. More to come....
